The German intelligence agency BND stated that Huawei is not a reliable partner and should not participate in the deployment of the 5G network in Germany. The agency bases this on security incidents from the past.

Earlier, Norwegian intelligence caused similar concerns, and Denmark agreed.

Of course, the United States has the most pressure - the US embassy in Berlin warned that a potentially compromised 5G network could jeopardize the future of intelligence sharing between the two countries.

The concern is that Huawei has built backdoors in its hardware that will be used by the Chinese communist government, but Huawei denies this charge. The company even sues the US government for banning and damaging Huawei’s reputation.

BnetzA, the German regulatory body responsible for telecommunications will start the auction for 5G bands in a few days (on March 19).

Four carriers have been admitted to the auction: Drillisch Netz, Telefonica, Deutsche Telekom (T-Mobile) and Vodafone. 420MHz total will be auctioned off from the 2GHz and 3.6GHz bands.
